About

I'm Tamsin. I founded Sprite Yoga back in 2011. I'd practiced various forms of yoga - Ashtanga, Iyengar and Vinyasa - to support my career as a professional dancer and dance teacher for twenty years.  I was finally persuaded by Mark Freeth of  The Freestyle Yoga Project to complete a 200hr yoga teacher training in 2008. I then spent several years living in France teaching regular yoga classes and retreats in the French Alps. Many of my clients there were athletes using yoga as a way to cross train and stay injury free. Since returning to the UK I've divided my time between bringing yoga to schools and working with adults in group classes and private sessions. It's a real privilege to be sharing the benefits of yoga with a full range of ages from 5 to 75. Having now passed the threshold of 3000 hrs of yoga teaching I'm accredited as a Chartered Level 2 Instructor with Yoga Alliance Professionals. Other qualifications include a BA Honours degree in Music, Drama and Dance from the University of Birmingham, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Contemporary Dance and Choreography from London Contemporary Dance School and a PGCE.

Classes:

Sprite Yoga classes promote the value of yoga in supporting and maintaining good all round health and wellbeing.

Participating in a regular class will challenge you to move well, build strength and free your body from habitual tensions. Each class has a different focus so that you remain mentally present, but at the heart of the approach is the use of breath, core stability, good alignment, efficiency and grace. Modifications are offered to ensure that beginners and those with more experience are welcome.

Yoga in Schools:

I continue to develop Sprite Yoga's Yoga in Schools programme. I work with and am supported by Brighton Yoga Foundation and Brighton and Hove Council. Our work with young people has been funded by Active Sussex and Sports England. Sprite Yoga currently delivers a regular yoga provision in primary, secondary and post- 16 education within the school PE curriculum, as after-school activities and as staff wellbeing.

Teacher Training:

Sprite Yoga offers Vocational Teacher Training courses for teachers of primary and secondary aged children.

All training courses are taught by me.  I'm an accredited trainer for Yoga Alliance Professionals with over 20 years experience working in education and 10 years working through yoga with young people aged 3 to 16+.

Short CPD training courses for school teachers and longer 60 hour vocational trainings accredited by Yoga Alliance Professionals are offered both live and online.

Testimonials

Its very seductive to fall into the ageism trap that says I can no longer do 'that', whether it's pigeon, plank, or starting a campaign to increase biodiversity! I would literally never stretch myself like that if I didn't come to class. It makes me feel full of life and deeply calm at the same time.

How magic was that music today?! Love it!

Thank you for all you give to us.

Sue Fleming - Beechwood Hall regular

Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed yoga on Monday. I thought it worked really well and was much needed after spending the day at my kitchen table! I look forward to this being the new norm for the foreseeable future, so thank you for making it happen.

I have been going to Tamsin's yoga class for 2 years or so. I love it. Tamsin's creativity and knowledge mean every week is different and the right level of challenge for everyone. I have had many yoga teachers and Tamsin is definitely one of the best. Thank you.

As an ultra trail runner Tamsin's yoga classes have been indispensable for caring for my equilibrium. Trail running in the mountains puts huge stress on the muscles and on knee joints particularly. Tamsin's specific methods can focus on the muscles and joints used for running by strengthening and stretching them. Since I started I have had no knee or back problems after running. Even after doing the Diagonale des Fous 171km I had no pains anywhere, before, during or afterwards...!! Miraculous! I would recommend Tamsin's yoga methods to any athlete.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed today’s class. It was hard work - in a good way! - and made me realise not just how much more flexible, but how much stronger I could be, particularly my core. You asked for feedback, and the only thing I can really say is that your approach is spot on.  It was the real deal, but you made it fun and relaxing. Anyway, I’ve booked next Wednesday, and I look forward to seeing you then.

It has been my good fortune to work with Tamsin in a yoga capacity for a number of years. She's a creative, adept and inspiring practitioner and instructor. She will, without question, assist many a student in their practice and go on to encourage some to take up the teaching mantle.

Mark Freeth, founder of The Freestyle Yoga Project

Tamsin's classes are the most beautiful, continuous flow of yoga with all her spectacular dance experience running through them like water. Her classes literally have you floating as your body gets to experience some truly wonderful poses and postures which she leads you through so gracefully and yet all the while you get a fabulous work out that leaves you feeling strong to your very core and on top of the world! Thank you Tamsin!
